Phil Boardman started playing in the mid sixties with "Corsairs" , a local Huyton band. Then he teamed up with Tiffany Thoughts managed by Peppermint Lounge alongside such bands as Gerry and the Pacemakers and Olympic. After long association with Tiffanys Thoughts he moved to London and was soon managed by Tony Stratton Smith who later became head of Charisma Records. In 1967 Phil & band were introduced to Shel Telmy of Planet Records and recorded a Ray Davies (of Kinks fame) song: All Night Stand. Phil Boardman and Pete Beckett on B side: Memory of your love. From the Record Mirror September 1967, "The Thoughts, who had backed Tiffanys, Paul Dean,Johnny&John, Merseybeats bass player and drummer, had the song Dead Right in representing life on the road". Disc and Music Echo said it was very Beatlish, done really well. The Flipside was also equally good by Boardman/Beckett.Awarded 4 stars. Early 1970`s Phil Boardman teamed up with Trevor Davies ie bass player Dave Dee,Dozy, Beaky,Mick & Titch. Lucrative few years followed with work for Wally Whitons' ' Country meets Folk', on BBC Radio 2. Sadly Phil and Trev (ie Woodsmoke) were let down on Parlaphone label when Sam & Dave of American fame released the same song 'Slow Dancer' before Woodsmokes version. After some tours of Germany etc, Phil formed Big Combo with Rod Kennard as bass player and began to work in Norway.. Phil has been in Norway since early 80`s and is quite happy, writing, recording, and playing. Now, with new album "All This Confusion" with Shaun Ashworth, who is also his partner on songs, all is well.
Shaun Ashworth was trained classically on piano for ten years. After playing in bands part-time became professional in 1980, playing with many different bands on the Northern 'Working Men's Clubs' circuit, before having moderate chart success and recording a video for MTV with soul band The Nerve. After touring American Airforce bases around Europe with various Tamla Motown stars, went solo in 1985, playing piano bars all over the world.
Recorded album 'Shaun Has Never Heard Of You Either' consisting of original material, in 1991, that wasn't released, it escaped. Some records go platinum, this went cardboard.
Still plays piano bars and does session work in Norway, where he has lived for twenty years.
